Restaurant „Zum Alten Bahnhof“

Restaurant „Zum Alten Bahnhof“

Today's restaurant was built in 1905 as a railway station for the Moselle Valley Railway and served as such until 1962. The line stretched from the neighbouring village of Bullay to Trier and was affectionately called the „Saufbähnchen“ by locals. The railway became unprofitable after the war due to motorisation and so the tracks and many stations were dismantled.

Zell station was one of the most beautiful and largest railway stations on this line from the very beginning and has been equipped with a restaurant since it was built in 1905.

Our history

In 2004, we decided to acquire the „Old Railway Station“ in Zell, which was for sale, and to convert it into an attractive wine bar with typical Moselle cuisine. We believe that we have succeeded in preserving the character of the former Moselle Valley railway station building as far as possible.

Directly behind the pedestrian bridge on the banks of the Moselle, you can now enjoy the Moselle valley and forget everyday life for a while while savouring a good glass of homemade wine and delicious food.

The winegrower's kitchen

As in everything we do, there is a lot of local flavour on our menu, from game from local forests (as a roast or as a cold dish) to smoked trout from the Moselle. The „Deppekuchen“ is a classic of Moselle cuisine, consisting mainly of grated potatoes, eggs and bacon.

Of course, in addition to regional dishes, typical German classics have also found their place on our menu. We also cater for our vegetarian guests.
